Slí Nua Studio
Charter of Values & Ethics
A living document. Last updated: July 2026
This charter guides everything we do at Slí Nua Studio, how we work, how we gather, how we build, and how we hold ourselves accountable. It is not fixed. It evolves with us and our community.
Who We Are
Slí Nua Studio is a Social Innovation and Living Lab Hub in Ballinrobe, County Mayo. We are an inclusive, affordable public space for experimentation, collaboration, and real-world testing, where careers, creativity, innovation, and community transformation meet.
This is not a co-working space. It is infrastructure for regenerative practice.
We exist to empower individuals, strengthen organisations, and inspire communities.
Our Values
Regenerative Practice
We work in ways that restore, not extract. Our programmes, spaces, and relationships are designed to give more than they take, to people, place, and planet.
Radical Inclusion
Every door is open. We actively dismantle barriers, economic, cultural, physical, digital, that prevent people from accessing the spaces, tools, and networks they need to grow.
Collective Intelligence
We believe the best solutions come from many minds. Our approach to learning, making, and deciding is rooted in co-creation, participatory design, and shared ownership.
Place-Based Action
We are rooted in Ballinrobe, County Mayo. We believe transformation starts local, in the streets, buildings, and communities where people actually live and work.
Critical Thinking
We encourage questioning, reflection, and intellectual honesty. Our Academy and programmes cultivate the capacity to think clearly, challenge assumptions, and act with intention.
Creative Courage
Making is a form of knowledge. We value experimentation, failure as learning, and the courage to bring unfinished ideas into the world.
Civic Responsibility
We are part of the public commons. Our work serves the community, and we hold ourselves accountable to the people and place we serve.
Ethical Technology
Our AI tools (Alex, Bert, Cecelia) are developed with care for bias, transparency, and human agency. Technology serves people, never the other way around. We are committed to ethical AI principles and regular review of our digital tools.
Our Ethics
We commit to:
- Transparency, in our governance, funding, and decision-making. Our operations are open to scrutiny.
- Data Protection, handling personal data with care, in full compliance with GDPR and Irish data protection law. We collect only what we need and protect what we hold.
- Anti-Discrimination, zero tolerance for discrimination on any ground. Our spaces are safe for everyone.
- Accessibility, our physical spaces and digital platform are designed for access. We actively seek and remove barriers.
- Environmental Responsibility, minimising our ecological footprint in operations, materials, and travel.
- Fair Compensation, valuing labour fairly, including creative and community labour that is often unpaid.
- Community Accountability, our Commons is governed by this charter. The community has voice and agency in how the Studio operates.
- Honest AI, our AI tools declare what they are. No deception, no hidden agendas, no data exploitation.
Governance
Slí Nua Studio is governed by [governance structure, placeholder]. This charter is reviewed annually with input from the community. Proposed amendments can be submitted through the Commons wing or by contacting us directly.
Board and team members sign this charter as a condition of their role.
